Heat Loss

Reduce your heat loss

Most people consider heat loss in their home almost constantly.  But it probably won’t cross their mind as often in the workplace, where it could cost you more money faster than it does at home.

It’s a real problem too.  Your building’s front door is probably open and closed a lot more during the day than your door at home.  What’s more, The Energy Saving Trust (EST) estimates that 60% of the heat lost through a building is actually through its ‘fabric’ – IE the walls and windows.

Did you know?

Many heating product companies provide heat loss calculators on their websites which allow you to estimate roughly how much heat your building is losing and hence how much it could be costing you.

There are ways you can reduce the effects of this problem relatively easily.

Draft Excluders

You can buy bespoke-sized draft excluders for your doorways and open windows.  The trusty folks at EST estimate that draft excluders can reduce bills by as much as 10% when implemented properly.  You will have heard of this option before, but you probably won’t have heard of the next one…

Window Insulation Film

There are many different levels of window films to prevent energy loss through your glazing.  Typically you can buy sheets, which can then be cut to size to fit your windows.  At the higher end of the quality scale, you can buy Low-Emissivity films which are coated in a thin, invisible metallic coating.  They are harder to install, but can have a significant impact on radiated heat loss through your windows and are worth a look.
