January is often a time of reflection as well as looking forward to the next 12 months in improving your life through both your work and personal achievements.
As I reflect on my first 12 months as Resourcing Business Partner for Great Annual Savings Group (GAS), I never expected so many of my aspirations and goals to be achieved in such a short space of time. Not to mention the hope and ambition I’ve been able to share with so many of the new people who chose to join us in 2019.
As a leading employer within County Durham, GAS offers a huge range of job opportunities, many of which are within sales, both locally and across the UK.
In my role, I have direct responsibility for the recruitment of staff for our Head Office in Seaham, and the scope of recruitment is wide ranging from telesales to marketing, from apprentice entry level through to senior management. This variation has allowed me to expand my skills and knowledge whilst hiring talented individuals from a broad background of industries.
Our growth has been exceptional in 2019, with a 100% increase in our headcount from 2018 and colleagues joining us from both within our industry and beyond, offering them all the chance of a long-term career opportunity.
2019 also brought opportunity from within the energy industry following the closure of Utilitywise; whilst upsetting for all those affected, GAS were able to offer an incredible number of people a renewed hope with new jobs, some of whom started working for us within three days of their redundancy. It was a busy period in resourcing but incredibly rewarding to see so much optimism from both the colleagues who joined us and how delighted our management were to support their arrival.
In keeping with our motto of looking for the next big opportunity and with plans afoot for an extraordinary new Head Office in the first half of 2020, our recruitment drive continues at some pace. Most of our current requirements at Head Office relate to roles within telesales and these opportunities are open to anyone who can demonstrate success in a sales role. I am looking for ambitious people seeking a new challenge in their career that will not only change their lives financially but give them the recognition and happy working environment that we know GAS offers.
With a dedicated Performance Management & Coaching division, if you have any type of sales experience and have the right attitude and ambition, we believe we can help and support you to be a success in a role with GAS! This person hadn’t worked in a telephone-based sales role but with the right coaching and development she has made fantastic progress and is on track to become a great success story for GAS. On a personal level since I joined GAS I never expected that my life would have changed so much. Our people are the life blood of our business and from the moment I walked through the door I’ve been made to feel so welcome with a new set of friends and an even bigger social life.
Living #TheGASLife has introduced me to some astonishing social events including tickets for the Brit Awards, staff conference and Christmas parties, not to mention our “Better Heath at Work” initiative, reinforced with our health care plans, life assurance, great holidays plus a 3pm finish every Friday! And as my next decade approaches (it’s a ‘big’ birthday this year) I’ve been able to plan some fantastic holidays as well as a new home – the balance of work and life is just perfect with GAS!
So as I embrace 2020 with even more ambition to succeed in our recruitment objectives, I look to our mission to be an ‘employer of choice’ within the local region and what more we could offer potential new recruits; I’m excited to be launching our GAS People brand and an online Talent Hub, both of which will further demonstrate our investment in our people and how important it is for us to attract the right talent, offering life changing opportunities to like-minded people.
