GAS Staff raise over £3,000 for local charities in October

At Great Annual Savings, our staff are committed to making a significant difference to our community and support small charities in the local area who are most in need. During the month of October, generous members of staff came together to raise £3,171.50 through various fundraising activities.

Alongside numerous internal activities such as our first ever Great GAS Bake Off, staff members took part in two separate challenges on Sunday 15th October to help raise additional funds.

The first challenge involved six brave individuals zipsliding across the Tyne Bridge. Kerry, Michael, Nathan, Charlotte, Simone and Anji took the long walk from ground level, to the top of the bridge, where they were harnessed up and left to dangle in mid-air with nothing but the sea below them, before beginning their descent back down to ground level. Their efforts helped raise a combined total of £1459.80 for local children’s charity Heel & Toe.

Charity Team Member Kerry Thorpe said; “It was a great experience taking part in the event, and I can’t thank everyone who donated to the cause enough for their contributions. When we launched the charity team, our goal was to make a difference to the local community, whilst ensuring all staff members were engaged and felt a connection with all four charities. The sum raised shows how important CSR is to the people of Great Annual Savings, and I look forward to being involved with more activities like this which the whole workforce can take part in.”

Natalie Harker, Fundraising Officer for Heel & Toe, applauded the support shown from the staff at GAS; “We were delighted when six staff members from GAS signed up to do the zipslide. Support from businesses is vital for us to continue our free therapy, but we love when staff get involved with our events as well. The staff not only loved the event, but they also raised a fantastic amount for Heel and Toe. The money will allow the charity to continue offering free therapy to so many children in the North East. We are so very grateful.”

On the other side of Newcastle, Craig, Adam, Jack, Joe and Liam took part in the Newcastle Stampede – a 10k cross-country assault course featuring obstacles such as; Water Wipeout, Hay Bay Hurdle and Gladiator Gauntlet. The team completed the course in one hour and five minutes, raising a total of £580 for GAS’ four chosen charities.

Liam said; “CSR is very important to everyone at GAS, and it is great that everyone within the business is getting involved. The five of us were thinking of a challenge we could take part in, that would raise a decent figure to add to the charity pot, and when we came across the stampede we thought it was a great opportunity to get involved. It was a tough challenge, but we supported each other and came through it as a team and most importantly it helped us make a sizeable contribution to our charity pot.”
