GAS Honoured with Gold Standard Wellbeing Award

Great Annual Savings Group (GAS) has scooped a gold standard Better Health at Work Award (BHAWA) for its ongoing commitment to staff wellbeing.

The award recognises the efforts of businesses in the North East and Cumbria who are taking steps to promote a healthy workplace.

The health and wellbeing of GAS employees is rooted into the Group’s culture, with an ethos of ‘Health, Wealth and Happiness’ at the heart of the company’s wellbeing hub, The Hive.

The Better Health at Work Award focuses on both physical and mental health and GAS has provided employee support on issues ranging from quitting smoking to improving diet.

The Group also regularly invites professionals from a range of fields into the business to provide advice for employees, on issues such as managing their finances.

GAS regularly encourages employees to focus on their wellbeing, providing a range of services and information aimed at improving health, not only in the workplace but in home-life also. With the Group’s HSF Health Plan, employees and their families can access quality healthcare with GAS supporting with funding.

Judith Bennison, Group HR Director, said: “We are delighted to have been recognised for our commitment to staff welfare.

“We have worked hard to put in place a number of initiatives to promote better health at work and will continue to invest in wellbeing and a great healthcare plan for our GAS staff and their families.”

The Gold accreditation requires businesses to go a step further than internal initiatives and get involved in promoting better wellbeing in the community.

To achieve gold standard, GAS had to have a three-year health strategy in place as well as a one-year tactical plan for execution.

As well as taking steps towards directly improving health, the award focuses on employee engagement. GAS employees have taken part in initiatives ranging from Tough Mudder and the Great North Run to skydives contributing to charitable causes in the process.

GAS first achieved a Better Health at Work Award in 2018, when the Group was awarded with both Bronze and Silver accreditations in the same year.

GAS aims to maintain this gold standard with further investment in staff wellbeing and raising health awareness in the community as the Group strives to gain the ‘Continuing Excellence’ accreditation.
