Back-billing

Back-billing by energy suppliers limited to 12 months

At Great Annual Savings, we know that energy bills going back months or years (back-bills), can be a concern for our customers.

Energy market watchdog Ofgem has introduced some welcome protection for smaller businesses in this area.  As of 1 November 2018, the standard licence conditions to microbusiness suppliers have changed.

Microbusinesses will now be treated the same as residential customers when it comes to back-billing for electricity and gas.

The newly-implemented standard licence conditions replace a previously voluntary code of conduct, which not all suppliers were signed up to and not all adhered to.  These new conditions limit any back-bill for electricity and gas to a maximum of 12 months.

This means that Ofgem is banning suppliers from issuing microbusinesses with back-bills for energy used more than 12 months ago.

Give us a call if you’re concerned about potential issues with back-billing and potentially unwelcome chunky bills for your business.
